As of the submission of this column, Randy Schultz has the honor of participating in the Old Glory Honor Flight’s Mission XLIII to Washington, D.C. on Oct. 18.
Randy, a Vietnam veteran and Sevastopol resident, along with five other Door County veterans were scheduled to depart Appleton international airport this past Wednesday at 6:30 a.m., heading out to see the memorials built in their honor at our Nation’s capital.
This one-day trip of a lifetime has honored World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans for 43 years. The free flight and full day itinerary is an expression of appreciation and thanks to a veteran for service to our country. Guests spend time on the National Mall, changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, and bus tour around the White House and Capitol district.
Randy’s wife, Linda, submitted the application for Randy and was excited to learn that he had been chosen to participate. With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, this trip brings an even greater measure of gratitude not only to our Door County veterans but to all those who served in the military.
