Old Glory Honor Flight of Northeast Wisconsin
'Return To Nam'
As a recognized partner in the ongoing, nationally chartered Vietnam War Commemoration, Old Glory Honor Flight is proud to announce that we are in the planning stages of a once-in-a-lifetime Honor Flight to Vietnam. We are actively seeking funds to transport up to fifty Northeast Wisconsin Vietnam veterans back to Vietnam on a two week tour. This no-cost trip will be planned for early 2019.
A separate application will be established on our website for those vets interested in participating - Apply Online Now (application period has ended). Participants will be selected at random from this list of applicants. Who is eligible? For this mission, any active duty military serviceman or woman, living in Northeast Wisconsin, that served in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Thailand between February 28, 1961– May 7, 1975 is eligible to participate. Blue-water and brown-water navy vets serving during that timeframe are also eligible.
Why Return to Nam? "Many in the community remember our Return to Pearl mission in 2012 to recognize the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor," said Tony Van Kampen, board member of Old Glory Honor Flight. "In the years since, many vets have asked us if we would ever take a similar trip to Vietnam. With 2019 being our 10th year of operation, we felt the time was right."
"Our Vietnam vets were treated poorly upon their return and many vets feel as if they endured the horrors of war for nothing," said Old Glory Board member Scott Delsart. "This trip will give these vets an opportunity for some closure. Seeing firsthand how the Vietnamese people have recovered from the war, will undoubtedly induce some much-needed healing for themselves."
Old Glory Honor Flight, an all-volunteer organization, will continue to operate its regular schedule of flights to Washington D.C., and participation in the Washington flight will not affect eligibility for Return to Nam. Old Glory Honor Flight will partner with the well-established and veteran-run Military Historical Tours for this special event, and funding for Return to Nam will be separate from our other funding efforts.
Old Glory Honor Flight is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Corporate and individual donations are encouraged. Please visit www.oldgloryhonorflight.org for more information, and thank you for your support.
