OSHKOSH (WLUK) -- More than 100 Vietnam veterans participated in the Old Glory Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. Friday.
They returned to EAA after visiting the war memorials in the nation's capitol.
For many, it was the first time they'd seen the memorial dedicated to them.
The veterans and their volunteer guardians took off from EAA early Friday morning for a whirlwind tour of the memorials.
Thousands gathered at the EAA grounds to welcome home the veterans from the "Yellow Ribbon Flight."
One of the veterans on the trip was awarded the Medal of Honor by former President Richard Nixon.
One veteran said it was bittersweet because they were not given the same welcome when they returned home the first time.
To date, the Old Glory Honor Flight has flown over 40 missions, taking more than 3,500 veterans to see the memorials in D.C.
