During Sawdust Days, the AMVETS, Post 7 and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 437 of Oshkosh collected donations for the Old Glory Honor Flight which is from Appleton. The donations that were collected will send veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials built in their honor. This year the donation from the community and the different veteran organizations in Oshkosh and Omro was about $5,000 and was donated to the Old Glory Honor Flight.

Each year during Sawdust Days the donations have been increasing from the previous year. We want to thank everyone who has donated to the Old Glory Honor Flight this year and in the past. The AMVETS and the Vietnam Veterans of America has been collecting donations for the Old Glory Honor Flight in the veteran's tent for about 10 years. The donations have sent many veterans to Washington.

The Old Glory Honor Flights is a proud affiliate of the National Honor Flight Network. The Old Glory Honor Flight mission is to offer our local veterans a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of honor to our nation's Capitol. It's a whirlwind tour. This trip happens all in one day and is completely free of charge to the vets.

Each year, Old Glory Honor Flight plans to continue its mission of flying as many veterans to Washington as possible. As you know, our veterans from World War II, Korean War and now the Vietnam War are advancing in age so time is of the essence. Since our wait list is growing, it is our sincere hope to take as many flights in the coming year as funding will allow. Please help us honor our local veterans by supporting Old Glory Honor Flight. Any donations may be sent to Old Glory Honor Flight, 4650 W. Spencer St., Appleton, WI 54914. They are a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible.

"Our debt to the heroic men and women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices." President Harry S. Truman.

The 40th flight was June 7, and this July 28 will be the 41st flight sending the Vietnam Veterans to Washington from the EAA AirVenture. This will be the fifth "Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight" from the EAA AirVenture.
